Marketing Coordinator, Multicultural Advancement | Duke Alumni Engagement & Development

DURHAM, North Carolina, The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for a wide array of tasks related to engagement and fundraising communications for the Multicultural Advancement program within Duke Alumni Engagement and Development. Our Multicultural Advancement program works to support and advocate for diverse alumni, ultimately increasing their engagement and philanthropy.

More specifically, the Marketing Coordinator will develop, execute, and distribute Multicultural Advancement communications with the support of the larger Marketing, Communications, and Stewardship (MCS) team. This position will report to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications.

Job Responsibilities

Project Execution

Execute and deliver communications for Multicultural Advancement through partnership with internal specialists and external vendors, as well as individual execution of various tactics.
Segment, assemble, schedule, test, and deliver advanced, segmented electronic communications, in collaboration with MCS e-communications specialists.
Coordinate with MCS colleagues and other AED departments to pull, segment, and prepare email and direct mail lists.
Partner with external print vendors to schedule and deliver print communications.
Coordinate and follow up with all partners on drafting, editing, design, proofing and final approval for each project.

Project Management

Manage timelines, budgets, and creative work in collaboration with MCS Project Planner and creative team (designers, multimedia producer, writers, and freelancers)
Establish goals and milestones for each project utilizing project management tools in Box, Asana, MS Teams, and others.
Collaborate with MCS colleagues to plan and execute all facets of multi-channel communications projects.
Prioritize work, meet deadlines, and actively communicate progress and deliverables with the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications, as well as alumni engagement and development partners
Maintain organized records and files including work product, mailing lists, timelines, plans, etc.
Ensure that projects that fall under the position’s oversight are compliant with departmental and university branding standards and policies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Strategy Coordination & Planning

Collaborate with the Fundraising Communications team to execute solicitation plans for Multicultural Advancement that build off broader fundraising strategies.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to manage internal and external partner relationships and facilitate discussion, gain consensus, and manage expectations.
Write or edit project briefs to guide Multicultural Advancement projects.
Work with MCS partners to gather analytics and insights that inform future marketing and communications plans.

Preferred Experience

Three years of relevant marketing and/or communications work experience required
Experience developing and implementing effective direct marketing campaigns across multiple channels required
Experience and comfort managing design, video, and other multimedia production projects required
Experience in project management applications
Experience in use of modern marketing and engagement e-communications platforms
Knowledge of, and proficiency in, coding and programming languages required to build email, including use of HTML and CSS in email communications
Knowledge of educational fundraising, higher education issues, research universities, and Duke University preferred
Agency experience preferred

Education
Work requires communication and marketing skills normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Experience
Work generally requires one year related experience in advertising, marketing, media, promotions or public relations.  EXPERIENCE OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR
